Feeling the need… to win!

The interesting thing about feeling is that it’s better to feel with other people.  Whether happy or sad or melancholy or jazzed, sharing your feelings with others is just better.

When I need a mental break but don’t have enough time for a walk-about, I reach out to people via Twitter; and some of the most amazing things happen!

For example, I met Jon via Twitter; then we talked by phone. We shared information and resources and as I’m just working away on a Sunday evening I get a tweet from @Jon_Lewis: “@loriruff You should join #blogchat on Sunday nights.”

Of course I searched the term #blogchat and there was lots of interaction; so, I saved the stream on my hootsuite dashboard and started reading and responding and engaging in the chat! I talked with some cool folks… chatting within 140 characters and having to include a name and a hashtag really keeps it snappy!

So, what does this have to do with feeling the need to win?  Each time I fuel my activities by interactions with other people, the exchange of knowledge and resources fuels my success just a little more. Over time, the cumulative effect is amazing.  Don’t believe me, look at my LinkedIn profile to see what I’ve been able to accomplish.  I’ve done none of it alone, but with the help of family, friends, and even random strangers who offered a tip or two that made a difference in how I win.

Try it. Tag a search stream to your Hootsuite or Tweetdeck or Seesmic (or whatever dashboard you use), or save the search on your Twitter home page. Follow the conversations people have on that topic and start engaging others in conversation.
Don’t forget to report back on your experiences and your successes. We’re all excited to hear!

Thanks for the Props Lori. This technology is amazing. It makes the world smaller, and it introduces us to new and fabulous people, such as yourself, miles and miles away without leaving our homes.

The one thing I keep harping on is that people seem to confuse the opportunities with sheer numbers. It's not about the numbers. It's about sincere, meaningful relationships.

Thanks again, and I look forward to reading more tweets and posts.

Thanks for stopping Jon and for introducing me to #blogchat! I've added it to my regular (Sunday 9pm Eastern) calendar! Oh – and let's mention that we a) met on Twitter, b) are both professionals and c) have shared some great resources and information with each other, fueling our wins just a smidge more than we might have without hte relationship.

Hoping to get to your neck of the woods mid year next. Will let you know when the schedule is set:)

    Sounds awesome! Let me know.

Any chats you participate in? I also participate in @BhamChat. We are trying to grow it (26 on last chat). We discuss issues in and around Birmingham. Any ideas on growing it?

Yes! Promote it on facebook and in your blog as well as with tweets. Do what you did for me on the #blogchat, invite people to join. Ask every participant to invite a friend via Twitter when teh chat begins – then you'll be able to capture those handles and send a personal invite for the next.
