“How I’m Going to Win” with Joey Montez

in Winning With Social Media

The first two days of this week were spent at the AFFCon 2010 International Internet Affiliate Conference here in Denver.  The first cool thing about speaking at a conference in your hometown is that you get to meet lots of local people that you haven’t had a chance to shake hands with before. The second cool thing is shaking hands again with those local people you only seem to meet at the large conferences!

joey montezJoey Monetz at InfoMediaInc.com is one of those people. “Who’s that” you ask? If you know the name Joel Comm and have had the chance to see him speak (like he did at AFFCon) you’ll probably have met his rockstar VP of Sales as well.  Joey is unassuming but at the same time large as life with a smile to match. He’s engaging and fun. And he has some great advice to share.

I had the chance to meet Joey at a conference last fall. We both remembered meeting (how can you forget meeting The LinkedIn Diva or Joel Comm’s Sales Rockstar?). So, we had a conversation. Later, while Joel was broadcasting his WebmasterRadio.FM show from the Exhibit Show floor, he took people from the audience to give their 30 second elevator pitch on the air.  Mike went first. As he is The LinkedIn Rockstar, that was fun to watch!  And he did a good pitch in 21 seconds. How do you follow that?

You let others  go first while you ask Joey for advice! In the span of four elevator pitches and one commercial break, we came up with the idea of sharing with people “How To Win with Social Media” in the form of a daily blog post. So here it is. And we created a category “Winning with Social Media”.

The first challenge to overcome is doing things we know need to be done but which are not our favorite things to do, and doing those things consistently!  How’s that for a mouthful?

So here’s my personal pledge to winning:

I, Lori Ruff, commit to writing one daily blog post for “Winning with Social Media” so that I will build a reputation as a consistent blogger that people want to follow for good, solid, and useful advice.

I never did like traveling alone, so I’m inviting you to join me.  Will you make a committment to winning by reading the daily post, following my advice where appropriate, and commenting if you have something to add so we can all win together?

Great! Cool!  Now, choose a social media goal.  Your first assignment is to leave a comment below. Ask a question or say what your social media goal is.  Let’s take this journey together! When you post your comment, please include your LinkedIn, Facebook, or Twitter ID, or better yet, set them all up at http://www.itsmyurls.com and include your custom link below so we can all connect and continue to help each other.

Rock On!

Lori

P.S. For giving my elevator pitch to a loud round of applause, Joel rewarded me with his DVD series “Elevate“. Check it out – it’s brilliant!  Thanks Joey for win #1!

My goal is to go back and examine every social media tool I use for its value as a listening device. So many business people still see it as a 21st Century megaphone. I want to help them discover how social media can be used to bring information and business TO them, not just for sending messages OUT as if it were some kind of digital brochure launcher. I’m aiming to create the mind shift that’s necessary before social media can be fully respected for its power as a business tool.

Ok Lori you and Mike are officially my new brightest information sources. As I type I am listening to the webmaster replay and waiting for Lori to come on for your elevator speech. You did not tell on the blog how Joel used the Rock the World book as a shield.
This coming week I am finishing a blog challenge with Jeanette Cates another Texan. As I finish this up I will be doing a backlink experiment. (PRWEB just hit 8th floor) YEAH LORI on the radio GO LORI ! OK I Love you “Find a Way to WIN!!”

Lori, what a great commitment. Blogging daily is a great way to be the authority. So many people who sell themselves as the authority either pay someone else to do their work or do it for a short time and then drop off the face of the earth. Glad you are in it for the long haul. No pressure though…

Oh Lisa, I’ve thought about a ghost writer. Someone to take the thoughts from my head and put them down on paper for me. But half the reason for me to blog is the therapy in the writing coming through my own fingertips, and the thought of building stronger relationships with people who “get me”, with people whose lives and hearts I touch. Thanks so much for your encouragement… see today’s post – I wrote it just for you :)
