There is so much chatter and buzz about the business benefits of Twitter and other social media platforms. What about its value for quality of life?
I spent the day, yes July 4 an official and fun holiday, working on the marketing plan and updating the manuscript plan for our upcoming book “Rock the World with Social Media“.
You may think that it was all work, but I had a fabulous day yesterday watching the world cup and then walking around Denver’s Cherry Creek Art Festival with friends, then meeting, having dinner and watching fireworks with a new couchsurfing.org friend. It was quiet and cool today – no ringing phones or business operations to distract me. A perfect day to relax and be creative and thoughtful.
I had lots of mental breaks by occasionally switching my screen to Hootsuite to follow the chatter of my friends. I even strengthened relationships with followers, having real conversations with people online that several times throughout the day moved to the telephone. I was able to ask people I respect for advice while I walked through the questionnaire provided by our publisher, Tendril Press. I chatted about the holiday, cats and dogs, concerts, tshirts, and artwork.
But you don’t have time for social media! First, yes you do
, and second, incorporating social media into your lifestyle does help you incorporate social media into your business life as well. Think about it. Don’t we use everyday skills in business too? It is the things we are most passionate about that we spend our time doing. It is the things we spend our time doing that we are best at.
So how are you using social media to enhance your quality of life? Leave a comment. I’ll choose the most creative to win a signed copy of our first book, Rock the World with your Online Presence: Your Ticket to a Multi-Platinum LinkedIn Profile.
